Suburban Mumbai district’s Additional Consumer dispute between Avantika Karkare and Airtel has given their decision. The court has ordered Airtel & Fine Rs 25000/- to be paid to Avantika Karkare, resident of Pune. The consumer case was filed in 2011 due to postpaid bill of Rs 8654. dent of Pune had purchased a SIM card from the service provider.
In 2011, Avantika Karkare has purchased Airtel SIM and inserted in the Blackberry phone. Soon after some month in November 2011 she suddenly received a postpaid bill of amount ₹8,654 which the company said that it was towards the internet usage which Karkare had utilized.
The firm, in its reply claimed, that the outstanding amount of the consumer was Rs 16,778 however the firm had given her an offer of letting off 30% of the bill amount, but even the same was not paid.
The forum after going through the evidence condemned the behavior of the mobile service provider, thus penalizing the firm to pay charges for mental harassment. The forum also asked the firm to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 towards the consumer protection funds.
